A tiring weekend! #NSR2014

My favourite weekend of the year has arrived and gone. Yet again 1000 students descended on the slightly murky waters of Holme Pier Point.

For the second year in a row I stepped into the role of a safety team leader. We had a great team, and were well supported by AdventureX

It was great to see old friends, catching up on a years worth of stories, high jinx and carnage! Whilst its great to see old friends, it is a pleasure to meet new people and forge new connections, contacts and friendships.

It was a pleasure to be there to assist Tom Parker of Tom Parker Coaching Fame with an introduction to NSR safety (which varies massively from standard WWSR principals). We had a few practice rescues, framed by a beautiful backdrop of the first decent sunset of 2014!

The weekend progressed with the Friday Night Party in the lavish surroundings of the River legacy party tent. As always the safety team drank little but partied hard! The boys from Zet were on it and even Mark Allen couldn’t get a drop of Alcohol down me!

Early start for the saturdays action! Safety team were ready and waiting with a few training swims and live baitings to set the tone. We danced hard, and managed to keep all the paddlers safe. With voices hoarse and soggy thermals we finished the day with smiles on our faces and a whole in our stomachs ready to be filled by Fish and Chips (Sorry river legacy).

Saturday Night Party was preceded by a chilled chat with the adventureX boys. I took my camera to the party, took a few snaps, danced hard and chatted away!

Sunday is classically the day for carnage, lots of hungover freshers attempting to pull the best shudder rudder, harry potter or just impress the judges with their cake eating ability on the wave!

White team pulled some good gigs with both novice finals at the inlet gate. We work hard, but in the down time and changeovers between heats we play hard with a few obligatory high fives and comedy swims.

Yet again Lucy,  Mark of DamX heroism and Pyro put on a great show organising the teams and running the weekend.

Till next year!
