Our expedition is going to be one of the greatest adventures of our lives. But there is more to it than that and as such there are two areas that we want to use our trip to raise money for.
First – we are really interested in the provision of clean water around the world. Because of this we shall be raising money for a water charity. There are quite a few out there and different charities provide different services and support. It was very important to us that we chose the right one to fit in with our beliefs and values. That is why we have chosen Just a Drop UK as our charity. They install clean water supplies, however they also take the time to set up a local maintenance and management structure for each facility. This means that supplies aren’t just left to fall into disrepair. On top of this, they also teach local communities about hygiene and sanitation.
Secondly – we want to help children have their own adventures. We have been lucky enough to all grow up in areas of the UK or within schools that have nourished our adventurous sides and have never really been left lacking. However not everyone has that opportunity. Because of this we have decided to support a UK charity that helps disadvantaged children have adventures and experiences that would not otherwise be available to them.
CHICKS provides week long respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, who would not otherwise have a break in that year.
CHICKS know that childhood can be a difficult experience if you are having a tough time at home. The children we support come from a variety of backgrounds – those living in poverty, children that are being neglected or abused, either mentally, physically or sexually, children who have lost parents or even children who are full time young carers.
Whilst the UK is in a tough economic climate the demand for respite care has grown and we live by our own signature – giving children the Gift of Hope, teaching children that they can achieve anything and reach what may seem like impossible goals. With no government funding and relying solely on donations this is a big challenge!
Each year we aim to provide 1,200 children with a much needed break but in order to do that, we need your help. Please visit our website for more information www.chicks.org.uk
We will be creating sponsorship pages for both these charities that will allow for easy and stream lined donations. Should anyone decide to make cash donations directly to us, then the money will be divided evenly between the charities unless otherwise requested by the doner.
